Fortnite Rocket Racing Tips

Rocket Racing

Fortnite Rocket Racing came out last week, and already the competition is getting fierce! Here are some tips to help you get the edge on the competition and take the checkered flag!

Time Your Boost Starts Accurately

You can get a head start on the competition at the beginning of every race. This is because you have a chance to boost at the start. But this may not be easy. To do this, you have to time your starts PERFECTLY! To time your starts, hit the gas as soon as the countdown gets to zero (green light). This can make a huge difference as you get to the higher ranks.

Drift Often, But Drift Safely

In Rocket Racing, drifting is vital! Drifting allows you to take inside corners at a sharp turn and gives you a short boost as you come out of the turn. Additionally, drifting helps build your boost meter (More on this later). So you want to try and drift whenever possible (and safely). But you also need to be careful as there is a strategy for drifting.

When entering turns, try to aim for the middle of the track and avoid starting your drift too early. Instead, wait until later in the curve to start your drift. This allows you to get through the turn smoothly and also allows you to double-tap your drift to take sharper turns. The sharper the turn, the stronger the drift, and the longer the drift, the bigger the boost, allowing you to retain your speed after coming out of the turn!

Learn the Tracks and Find Shortcuts

Rocket Racing tracks are filled with twists and turns. However not all are created equal, as some routes are more optimal than others. In addition, several tracks have hidden (and some not-so-hidden) paths and shortcuts littered throughout them. However, with the fast pace of the race and the chaos caused by the other cars on the track, you may miss them. These shortcuts can be a huge advantage and a deciding factor when the race is tight! Try to look for any of these shortcuts and use them when possible. Ensure you can do this smoothly without slowing down or turning around. Otherwise, you will lose the advantage.

You can also drive around these tracks in private mode to get used to the paths and curves of the tracks and to learn where they are located and how to use them in a real race.

Don’t Waste Your Turbos

In every race, you are given a turbo meter that holds three turbocharges. In addition, each boost allows you to extend it when timed properly. These are invaluable assets and can give you the edge in crucial situations. Therefore, it is essential to constantly build your turbo meters by drifting during the race and avoid wasting them. You will need them in the final stretches of every race! Instead, find the green arrows on the track and drive over them. These free boosts can help you catch up to your opponents or extend your lead.

You can also develop strategies using a combination of green arrows, boosting, and drifting to get three boosts and replenish your meter quickly.

Taking some time to practice and implement these strategies will help you outrace the competition and rank up quickly! Now go fire up your engines and go hit the track!
