From Gamers to Champs: Fortnite Team Claims National Title

Playing as a Fortnite team in an Esports league is no easy feat. Playing down a player for more than half a season is even harder. Winning the championships while dealing with those challenges in your first season is almost unheard of! But our middle school Fortnite squad was able to capture their first title with the odds stacked against them by believing in themselves, their hard work, and each other.

How the Fortnite Middle School team become champions

Our Fortnite Middle School team showed sheer determination and teamwork for their first time meeting each other and playing together. Individually, they’re great and talented gamers. Although they casually play in duos, trios, and squad matches, they’ve never participated as a team for an entire season. Therefore, the first challenge would be to get them to play as a team rather than as individuals.  For this to work, they will have to worry less about individual stats and accolades and more about what works best for the team.

Short-lived Success

They worked extremely hard to learn each other’s playstyles and integrate them into a cohesive unit, which was challenging at first. However, as the season began, they managed to do just that, showcasing some impressive gameplay and picking up several wins against some highly talented teams, leading to an undefeated record at the start.

However, our Fortnite team was about to be faced with a difficult challenge. Midway through the season, some of our players decided to leave the team, and due to league rules, we were not able to recruit and bring in replacements. As a result, we were down a player, heading into the hardest part of our season’s schedule.

To Play or Not to Play

Faced with the choice to forfeit or compete with only three players against teams of four, the team chose to press on. They came together to devise a new strategy to overcome the disadvantages and adapt to now playing as a trio against 4-person Fortnite squads for the remainder of the season if they were going to make the playoffs.

There were a few disagreements about how to move forward. But we do everything on this team with R.A.C.E..

R.A.C.E. stands for Respect, Accountability, Communication, and Execution. It’s a guiding principle for our teams, emphasizing that each element is interconnected and essential for success.

As a result, all members were heard and they agreed on a new plan of action.

The adjustments and strategies paid off! The trio remained undefeated throughout the rest of the season and received a top seed in the first round of the playoffs. After winning the first round, they were considered the underdog in their semifinal match. However, they defeated the top team 3 sets to 1, pulling off a major upset! Our Fortnite wolfpack beat one of the two top teams in the entire National League on their way to playing the other one in the championship match!

The championship match was tough, with both teams playing their hearts out. However, when the dust settled, Alpha Esports & Technology’s Fortnite Wolfpack were declared the CHAMPIONS of the Fall Esports season!

This was an incredible achievement for the team, particularly given the obstacles they faced in their inaugural season. More importantly, they demonstrated remarkable grit and integrity, consistently prioritizing what is right, even when other teams might not behave similarly.

Teamwork and Resilience: A Winning Formula

The Middle School Fortnite team faced numerous challenges throughout the season. They adapted their playstyles to work as a team, overcame the loss of teammates by developing new strategies, and maintained their integrity throughout the competition. Their unwavering determination and commitment to teamwork ultimately led them to a well-deserved National Championship! This win inspires our community and is a testament to the power of teamwork and perseverance.

We are extremely proud of our team and coaches, who worked hard all season to make this amazing season even better with a championship trophy! We can’t wait to defend our title this spring and go for the title of “two-time champs!”

However, we now have a huge target on our backs as every team in the league will have their match with the Wolfpack circled on their calendars so they can try and take down the reigning champs.

Therefore, we are going to need help. We need more great players to join our team. As a result, we are now accepting applications for next season.
