Are you (or your teen) curious about technology, but not sure where to start? Whether you’re a total beginner or already tinkering with gadgets, our brand-new Six-Week Tech Exploration Camp is the perfect launchpad into the world of tech!

  • When: Once a week starting July 16th from 6 PM – 8 PM (EST)
  • Session Length: 2 hours per session
  • Where: Classes will be held in a hybrid setting (in-person and online). However, it is recommended that students attend in person.
  • Who: Teens & young adults interested in tech (no prior experience needed!)

What’s Inside the Camp?

Every week, we’ll dive into a new area of technology with hands-on activities, real-world examples, and plenty of time for questions and exploration. Here’s what you can expect:

Week 1: Introduction to Tech & Computer Basics

  • Discover exciting tech careers: IT, cybersecurity, software development, cloud, AI, and more!
  • Understand how computers work (hardware vs. software)
  • Get comfy with operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Activity: Identify computer parts (real or virtual!) & test your skills with a fun OS navigation challenge

Week 2: Networking Fundamentals

  • What is networking? (Hint: it’s everywhere!)
  • Learn about IP addresses, routers, switches, and how the internet connects us all
  • Internet safety tips for the real world
  • Activity: Build your own network diagram & simulate connecting devices

Week 3: Cloud Computing Essentials

  • What is the Cloud?: Cloud vs. traditional computing, everyday examples (Google Drive, Netflix, gaming)
  • Types of Cloud Services: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS explained simply
  • Careers in Cloud: Roles like cloud engineer, architect, support
  • Activity: Set up a free cloud storage account; upload, share, and collaborate on files

Week 4: Cybersecurity Basics

  • What is Cybersecurity (C.I.A. Triad)
  • Why cybersecurity matters (with real-world stories!)
  • Learn about threats, risks, vulnerabilities, encryption, and how to protect yourself online
  • Password safety, multi-factor authentication, and safe browsing
  • Activity: Spot the phishing email game & create unbreakable passwords

Week 5: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

  • See how AI is part of your daily life (voice assistants, recommendations, gaming)
  • Simple intro to machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing
  • Talk about ethics: bias, privacy, and responsible AI use
  • Activity: Try out a real AI tool (like ChatGPT or an image generator) & discuss what you find

Week 6: Pathways Into Tech + Capstone Challenge

  • How to kickstart your tech journey: certifications, degrees, self-learning, internships, and networking
  • Hear from real pros (guest speakers or video interviews)
  • Capstone Challenge: Team project or quiz—build your dream tech career roadmap!
  • Wrap-up with resources, local opportunities, and a Q&A session
